Students of Andiamo Secondary School on Monday, 28 January 2013 observed a minute of silence to remember those who lost their lives during the holocaust.

The students were also given time to debate the importance of having the Holocaust Remembrance Day to avoid repeating the same mistakes in future.

The holocaust, also known as the Shoah, was the mass murder of genocide of approximately six million Jews during World War II, a programme of systematic state-sponsored murder by Nazi Germany, led by Adolph Hitler and the Nazi Party, throughout German-occupied territory.

It is said that of the nine million Jews who had resided in Europe before the Holocaust, approximately two thirds were killed. Over one million Jewish children were killed in the Holocaust, as were approximately two million Jewish women and three million Jewish men.
