Tiyende School graduates
After
studying for a long time, every student expect to yield maximum
harvest from what s/he sow. This was the same case as tiyende students
were hoping that there will a day when they will smile over their
effort and indeed it has happened.
It
was on Friday of 5th September, 2008 when people from all walks
of life came to witness the graduation function of their fellows.
It all got started at 9:30am with Mrs. Useni; the Principal, introducing
the aim behind the function. In her introductory speech, she said
that it wasn’t a day for her to explain everything but the
students themselves to the people hence the teacher did their part
during the consistent lessons they were having. The whole ceremony
was divided into three: visiting different sections, certificates
presentation and speeches.
There
were various sectors where people get to know what Tiyende is all
about. The first segment to be visited was agriculture. The students
explained how to make manure, care for crops and not forgetting
crop rotation. All these have equipped them to ensure food security
in their respective communities. The second was the Kitchen. Here
it’s where the point of hygienic was stressed. They pointed
out the importance of cleanliness at the kitchen to avoid contracting
some diseases in the likes of Cholera among others. They also clarified
the point on how to save fire wood resources using the modern skills.
From there, it was now a stand of Food and Nutrition. The students
expounded the importance of balanced diet. They were also taught
how to make cooking oil, milk, jam and other drinks from locally
available resources. They zeroed in how to deal away with the problem
of malnutrition to under five children and pregnant women who are
the most targeted fellows in this scenario. There was Knitting and
Crocheting stand. Here they shaded more light on the skills they
have acquired using the machines as well as needles. They have leant
how to decorate and to make all source of good products from wool.
Having
seen all the skills and the knowledge that the students have been
imparted, one of the students read the letter they prepared. The
Founding trustee, Fr. Mario presented the Certificates to 18 out
going students after wards.
When
it came to speeches it was the principal who started the ball rolling.
In her remarks, she expressed her heart felt sympathy to the death
of their coordinator, Mrs. Ethel Phiri who played a greater role
in their Institution. Alessandro, A.E.I coordinator congratulated
both the student and the staff for the peace and harmony which was
enjoyed during their six months of stay at the school. Mr. A.Galeta,
Andiamotrust Executive Director thanked the Founding trustee, donors
and all well wishers for their tireless support for the running
of the Education Institutions. At last, Fr. Mario empted the bag
by stressing the dangers of HIV/AIDS. He said that good behaviors
and hard working spirit are the keys to success. He also expressed
his condolences for the loss of Mrs. Phiri who was one of the people
that made the existence of Tiyende project. To show the appreciation
of what she did, the Cooperative has drawn a memoriam graphic on
the staff room wall in order to remember her.
There
was jubilation all over at the end for both guardians and the students
upon seeing the benefits realized from Tiyende School. The students
confirmed that they can now relay on themselves by utilizing the
skills and knowledge obtained at the school. Other details of this
function will come to you in our Newsletter very soon!
