A STORY BEHIND EDUCATION
Many
people can now understand and see the importance of education in
Malawi. People are interested and are focused in different educational
activities.
One
of the secondary schools which have greater number of women students
is St. Charles Lwanga in Balaka district. Women can now understand
that one does not go to school so that at last should get employment.
But there are many things behind one being educated and they see
the big responsibilities they have to play in the society. Some
of these women, left school due to early pregnancies, peer pressure
among other factors. Having been given civic education many were
convinced and accepted the initiative of going back to school. Most
of these women attend evening classes hence many are married and
some they care for their children before they leave for school.
There
is high probability that these women will contribute a lot to the
development of the society and the country at large. We talk of
equality in big positions in the society, how can they take positions
of influence yet empty minded? So they have now started realizing
that they were scrambling for nothing. Had it been that this spirit
started sometime back, Malawi could have been singing another song.
