GENERAL INFORMATION

LEAVE
For a travel of approximately three weeks it’s needed a valid passport for at least 6 (six) months, an extended permanence demands a greater validity of the same one. Visa is not necessary, it is issued at the airport and has a validity of 1 (one) month and can be renewed until 3 (three) months. Four passport size photo for documents are useful. Bring 30 (thirty) US dollars cash -not euro- for the exit tax when leaving the country.

ARRIVE
For logistic reasons we strongly advice to land at Blantyre International airport Via Johannesburg -South Africa- very closed to Balaka compared to the capital city. For the transfer from the airport to Balaka we require a symbolic aid of 15 (fifteen) euro.

STAY
Is of recent opening the House of Volunteers, a modern, safe and clean structure. It is few hundreds meters far from Andiamo Cooperative and nearest to schools, clinics and the several different activities of the Mission. The House of Volunteers is run as a hostel with single, double or groups rooms all with mosquito net on beds and inner bath. With cheap money we offer night's passing, breakfast, lunch and supper. Laundry service on demand.
Approximately fifty meters far it is available an Internet Café with a fast satellite connection. Handset gsm (900/1800 mega hertz) is much popular in Malawi and it works well even for countrywide communications than for international calls. With approximately 4 (four) US dollars is possible to acquire local telephone company SIM card or to remain in roaming with the own telecom company.
Malawi is known as the warm heart of Africa; its people are friendly and cordial, no problems about personal security and for personal belonging.
Beyond the visit/acquaintance of the different activities in progress at the Mission we can organize days trip on the sides of the Lake Malawi and to Liwonde National Park; to the Mua’s Ethnographic Museum, in the mountain to Zomba Plateau and many other routes in the near villages.
Informal clothing and sportswear is advised. The climate is tropical therefore fresh pants or skirts with t-shirt go well. The rains season goes form November to April with one “cold” season -austral winter- from July to September where jumpers and jackets are truly comfortable.

HEALTH
For shootings and preventions consult international office travellers of your own country, informing them about the length of the permanence and the period of the same one. If, for health reasons, you are in drug therapy carry the drug in abundance.

LEAVE AGAIN
Not to forget the Malawi ‘s people.
