Junior National Team coach for Basketball, Hope Chisamanje trained basketball players in Balaka at Andiamo Basketball court today 20 August 2012.

Speaking right on the court when he was training the players, Hope says he intends to train coaches for basketball in the secondary schools. According to him, this is the only way basketball can be promoted in the schools.

The national team coach, says he would like to work hand in hand with Andiamo Education Institutions (AEI) to see “how best we can help basketball in Balaka”.

Sydney Rodney Lungu, one of the players who underwent the training says the training is helpful to them.

“Everybody can play basketball but Hope has helped us to know the basics,” says Sydney.

This is not the first time that basketball players from Balaka have undergone basketball training. In April this year, Calciolari Guido, a medical expert with a passion for basketball came together with Italian trainers Anzani Mario and Giulia Cortesi who drilled players from 14 schools around Balaka in skills such as attacking, defending and shooting, and the rules of the game.

During the two week training, they distributed 60 basketballs and 200 jerseys.
